11:17:32 From Carol Abbott to Everyone:

Hello World!  My product is 36.

11:17:56 From Adrienne to Everyone:

for "newbies" like me - how would this be used as SSA's?

11:19:16 From Saher Haroon to Everyone:

Great Q, Adrienne

11:19:47 From Carol Abbott to Everyone:

Adrienne, Years ago, I took a Java Script class in Physics, and we created a simulation of a three-body gravity problem. It takes a bit more scripting Knowledge, and some physics knowledge, but you could use this to model asteroids or Jupiters moons, or etc. As one example.

11:20:00 From Carol Abbott to Everyone:

I'm an SSA, also.

11:20:14 From Saher Haroon to Everyone:

Thanks, Carol!

11:20:58 From Mari Westerhausen to Everyone:

is this recorded? I'm just getting in and out as I have classes in between... thanks

11:21:00 From Nick Strobel to Everyone:

professional coders, they’ll need to learn HTML5

11:21:10 From Todd.Ullery to Everyone:

You will make much more money in programming than in teaching astronomy

11:21:31 From Saher Haroon to Everyone:

Yes, Mari, it is.

11:22:01 From Rosemary Walling to Everyone:

why the empty? <h1></h1>

11:22:40 From Adrienne to Everyone:

Thanks, Carol. So this modeling would then be used in a planetarium show? As far as how the images appear? move?

11:22:40 From Lisa Gethard to Everyone:

That's right FORTRAN, COBAL is still marketable.

11:22:49 From Todd.Ullery to Everyone:

Rosemary, the <h1> tags are placeholder to use when doing the querySelector

11:22:51 From Scott Turnbull to Everyone:

I work as higher ed research staff in software systems. New code is written in Fortran all the time.

11:23:34 From Carol Abbott to Everyone:

Fortran, Ha! I wrote my Mechanical Engineering Master's Degree heat transfer analysis with a Fortran card deck. Won't tell you all when that was.

11:24:23 From Todd.Ullery to Everyone:

Don't trust comments! They often are not updated with the code.

11:24:36 From Scott Turnbull to Everyone:

That card deck was probably just before I began my engineering studies. We were taught card skills for backward compatibility.

11:25:00 From Carol Abbott to Everyone:

I saved the deck. Still have it.....

11:25:50 From Adrienne to Everyone:

@Carol that makes me think of the photo of Margaret Hamilton next to her stack of printed code for Apollo missions!

11:27:16 From Carol Abbott to Everyone:

Adrienne, I could pose for a photo like that. Although the building I was in, Robinson Lab at OSU, is long gone.

11:27:40 From Holly Ryer to Everyone:

If working in Notepad, what format should I save in I order to make the code work.

11:28:14 From Todd.Ullery to Everyone:

Holly, save the file as html

11:29:15 From Nick Strobel to Everyone:

raw text

11:30:41 From Lisa Gethard to Everyone:

Note: This is not working on Safari Browser.

11:31:24 From Nick Strobel to Everyone:

I haven't done Java for a long time. I am glad to know that testing and debugging can be handled from today's browsers. Makes it more accessible.

11:44:31 From Lisa Gethard to Everyone:

YES. API Appliction Programming Interface.

11:45:30 From Lisa Gethard to Everyone:

Jeff, What if we are members of a Data Science group with API SLACK Channel group? Can we use API interface with our content?

Is there a place to learn about do's and don't with respect to security when putting javascript which accepts input, into public web pages?

12:02:26 From Lisa Gethard to Everyone:

Yep! HS students learn Full Stack Coding during the summer and became entrepreneurs---and graduated from HS.

12:02:55 From Nick Strobel to Everyone:

What age students might work with JavaScript? Middle school and high school? Younger?

12:09:12 From Lisa Gethard to Everyone:

Start off early age. Some young students are high functioning level.

12:09:48 From Adrienne to Everyone:

never too young to start with coding!

12:09:53 From Lisa Gethard to Everyone:

There is a NASA N3 Pilot Program for Neurodivergent High School students this Summer.

12:16:09 From Saher Haroon to Everyone:

Thank you, Jeff and Alan.

12:17:37 From Lisa Gethard to Everyone:

Question: How can we include a QR Code in these pages so the Public may Scan the page with their phones to download information. OMB has a decreased budget for allowing paper content.

12:18:05 From Rosemary Walling to Everyone:

the program atom color codes as well.

12:18:51 From Mari Westerhausen to Everyone:

Thank you so much for your presentation. Have a great weekend.

12:19:59 From Nick Strobel to Everyone:

Always comment the code because 6 months later, you won’t remember what the code was supposed to do

12:22:42 From Nick Strobel to Everyone:

I did coding in C for my dissertation and commenting my own code was essential for the late night sessions.

12:29:01 From Rosemary Walling to Everyone:

still recording?

Thank you for a great program!

12:29:23 From Alan Gould PPA Treasurer to Everyone:

12:31:04 From Nick Strobel to Everyone:

NASA is totally public, so not being able to link to any NASA page seems bizarre!

12:31:57 From Nick Strobel to Everyone:

If I link to a NASA site on my website, then I’m doing something wrong?

12:32:00 From Adrienne to Everyone:

As SSA's we're not supposed to wear t-shirts, etc with the NASA logo
